Teacher receives governor's award
Congratulations to CFJ first-grade teacher Jessica Carl who received Governor Cuomo's Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award. She was surprised with this recognition during the regular meeting of the Board of Education when representatives from the governor’s office announced her as the winner.
Carl is one of five award winners in the region and one of 60 throughout the state.
The award recognizes educational leaders (PreK-12) who exemplify the professional work of thousands of outstanding, progressive teachers and innovative educators striving to attain New York standards and success for all of their students. These teacher ambassadors are career learners and education leaders who are eager to represent the accomplishments and professional work of their colleagues, share their craft, advise policymakers, and continue learning.
Anyone—students, parents, or educators—may submit a nomination based on a list of criteria that the nominee must exemplify.
Winners are selected by a panel of educational leaders from several professional associations.
