The GFJ 5th Grade Boosters met on April 24th at 5:30 in the GFJ library with 4 members attending. Our current checking account balance is 8094.25. The $400 from PTA for recognition was received and deposited. It was noted that the 5th grade booster club does not have tax exempt status and needs to pay tax on purchases and collect sales tax on future fund raisers. The class motto was voted on as “School’s out, memories past, don’t ever doubt, out friendship will last”. A black t-shirt with the Tiger Paw and the kids names will be given to each 5th grader, 5th grade teacher and 5th grade staff. Deadline for the order form was April 23rd, 2012. Jackie Kupiec will place the order with Calleo for a delivery of the first week in May. These shirts are priced at $6.78/shirt. Angel Dupuy will contact Laura Lapier regarding the Wonders of the Rain forest field trip on May 22nd. For the upcoming field trips to Roberson (June 6th and 13th), and the Bmets (June 4th), a donation to pay for the trip must be made to the school board with the contingency that the monies be used for the designated trips. Angel Dupuy will draft the letters and contact Sarah and Jessica for the estimates of the field trips. The Skate Estate trip will be on June 15th. Only one quote for 191.13 was obtained by Brenda Mariano. As we will begin the policy on June 14th we will wait to receive the quote from Brown and Brown Empire State Insurance Company before making a decision. Dianne Breen will chair the refreshment part of the skate estate day. Payment for this field trip will come directly from the 5th grade account. It is the intention of this year’s class to purchase the annual policy to enable next year’s club to use the coverage for their skate estate trip also. Two dates for Fun Friday’s were set. May 24th (a Thursday) will be a movie day for the 5th grade with the boosters providing popcorn and water. Brenda Mariano will chair this activity. The second fun Friday will be June 8th. There will be 3 activities: a jeopardy game; science activity, guess the classmate from the baby picture game. Further planning will occur at a future subcommittee meeting. Brenda will contact Sarah and Jessica to fine tune the times during the day these events will occur and the room arrangements. Further discussion about the Recognition events occurred: Jen Knickerbocker. Programs This subcommittee will discuss further details at a future meeting. Cathy Harris Invitations. Cathy showed us several examples of invitations. She will purchase the envelopes and cardstock from Michaels and print them from her home. We discussed the cost of mailing the invitation home. Cathy will talk to Cynthia and report back about the mailing options. Angel Dupuy (Michelle calligraphy). Angel showed us a copy of the diploma. She will copy these from her home or use BOCES. Decorations. We still are in need of a decoration chair. Angel offered to get a quote for an outside vendor to provide the decorations. Slide Show. Continue to send in your pictures to Sarah Masters. Baby Picture boards. Dianne and Karen are chairing this portion. It was discussed to make a game of guess the 5th grader from the picture to be a part of the fun Friday activities on June 8th. Self portraits: Dianne reported that she and Karen have a plan to bring the portraits to the high school and line the hallway leading to the tree room with the portraits. There will be several announcements made to tell families to bring their child’s portrait home with them. Refreshments: Dania, Angel and Brenda. Brenda will draft a notice to go home with the 4th graders requesting their help with recognition night. We will invite them to our May 22, 2012 meeting. We will not be doing cupcakes. This subcommittee will discuss further details at a future meeting. Gift to GFJ from the 5th grade booster club: We are looking for ideas for a gift to benefit the students of GFJ given by the current 5th grade class. Gifts to the 5th graders: yearbooks. No payment has been made as of today April 23, 2012. CD slide show and the T-shirts. Our next meeting will be May 22, 2012.
