The Union-Endicott School District receives funding for its Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) through a New York State grant. UPK grants enable school districts to either operate their own UPK programs, or to fund UPK programs through existing preschool organizations in the community. Program eligibility requires students to be four years old on or before December 1.
U-E has chosen to collaborate with existing agencies to offer UPK programs for U-E's children. These sites run independently from each other and have program directors on site.
The three Union-Endicott UPK sites are: Endicott First Presbyterian Nursery School on Grant Avenue, Broome County Head Start on Route 26, and the Family and Enrichment Network's UPK program at Charles F. Johnson School. Each site has its own Pre-K curriculum. However, every other month U-E provides site directors and teachers the opportunity to come together for training in U-E instructional models such as Everyday Math and literacy instruction to build cohesions with U-E's Kindergarten curriculum.
